People in the know said all summer that the two most
improved teams in Conference
those people to be proven right. League play opened Friday night and
recent years with a 28-21 upset of Pike. This one was no fluke either. The
Cardinals were ahead at the end of three quarters by 20 points and held on for
the win. Running back Nick Davis gained over 200 yards on the ground for the cardinals.
Lawrence Central continued to impress onlookers. The Bears
downed Perry Meridian 49-0. The win makes LC 3-0 under new coach Jayson West.
It also will further the love they started to receive from the statewide
pollsters this week.
Bloomington South did nothing to take the “favorite” label
from their helmets. The Panthers downed Franklin Central 34-7. The most
impressive part of this win was the defensive effort. South is beginning to
answer those critics who questioned whether their defense could improve enough
to make them a threat for the title.
Columbus North bounced back from their loss last week to
city rival East. The Bull Dogs knocked off Bloomington North, but it certainly
wasn’t easy.
prevailed 35-28. How hard to you think it must be for either team to prepare
for this game? After all, the two coaches grew up in the same household. They
have to know each other pretty well.
