The usual
suspects from Conference Indiana surfaced in wrestling sectionals Saturday.
Perry meridian and Bloomington South both won sectionals in overwhelming fashion.
The surprises came from Pike and Columbus North. Pike finished third behind the
Falcons and Ben Davis in the Decatur Central Sectional while Columbus was
second at Jennings County. It was impressive performances by both.
Perry
meridian and Bloomington South had nearly mirror performances. Both squads
advanced 13 wrestlers into regional competition and crowned six champions at
their respective sites. Columbus North advanced 11 grapplers to regional bouts
and had three champions. Pike was right behind advancing ten with three
champions.
Elsewhere in
the conference, Southport was fourth at Decatur Central despite advancing only
two wrestlers. The Cardinals crowned one champion. Lawrence Central was fourth
at its own sectional. The Bears had one champion among the seven individuals
they advanced to regional competition. Bloomington North was fourth at
Northview, advancing seven wrestlers and grabbing two titles. Franklin Central
was seventh at Shelbyville and advanced two individuals to the next level.
In all,
Conference Indiana advanced 72 wrestlers to the regional round and crowned 23
individual champions.
