GT: Columbus North clinches Conference Indiana crown

Tenth-ranked Columbus North assured itself of the Conference Indiana girls tennis championship last week as the Bull Dogs whitewashed Southport, 5-0, to complete a perfect 7-0 run through their CI schedule.

The match improved Columbus North’s overall record to 10-1. The Dogs now focus on a showdown with Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference power No. 3 Carmel this week in what should be an excellent tuneup for sectionals.

Bloomington North, meanwhile, has a leg up in the race for second place after its 4-1 victory over Lawrence Central. The Cougars are now 4-1 in league play.

Other results from play last week include Bloomington North over Perry Meridian 3-2, Bloomington South over Perry Meridian 3-2, Columbus North over Bloomington South 5-0, Franklin Central over Lawrence Central 4-1, and Pike over Perry Meridian 4-1.

Bloomington South breaks 300 in besting eight other ranked schools at
the 24-team Spring Preview at The Legends of Indiana. The Panthers’ 299
is 13 strokes better than No. 13 Center Grove and unranked Columbus
North, with No. 7 Evansville Central another shot back in fourth and
No. 4 Carmel one more stroke back in fifth. Columbus North’s Tyler
Duncan shoots a 67, one shot better than Frank Miller of Bloomington
South for medalist honors.

SB: Conference Indiana sectional pairings!!!!

The field for the 24th Annual IHSAA Softball State Tournament Series
was set May 8 at the IHSAA office in Indianapolis. This year’s state
tournament consists of 371 teams and begins with sectional play May 19.
Regionals are slated for May 31, with the state finals to be held June
6-7.
